Project Summary
The project will attract mainly visitors from Ningbo, but potentially extends its circle of attraction to Hangzhou and even Shanghai. Like the finest European examples, nature and resort should form a unity: the town should not be overpowering but rather embedded into its natural surroundings. This sense of harmony needs to be achieved on all levels, from the “first glance” of the project from far away, via the public spaces and iconic structures all the way to the architectural detail of each building typology.
The projects biggest asset is its lakeside location. Therefore the project makes use of various ways of engaging visitors and residents with the lake frontage. Views and Sightlines should be arranged so that there is always a “picture book” panorama created consisting of lake, mountains, village and island or bamboo hill. Within the urban area, there is a series of features that act as the main spaces of public and social interaction, for visitors and residents alike.
The natural Bamboo Hill and the densely built-up Island Hill, stretching into the lake like a peninsula form a compelling and engaging contrast between man-made structure and scenic environment. The Provence Theme is interpreted as embedding French elements into a Chinese context – both in urban configuration and architectural expression – with the hillside Boutique Hotel, small lanes and squares, lakeside boulevard, market and marinas.
