Project Summary

The St. Aldegund retreat aims at creating a uniquely individual experience: a luxury get-away set in the sloped village of Mosel's beautiful vineyard landscape.

Its expressive geometry integrates with the existing sloped village roof-scapes, but offers a completely open, floating interior with undisturbed panoramic views across the valley. Interior and exterior transition seamlessly from living to BBQ terrace, from work-out zone to wellness courtyard.

Architecture and landscape are combined for maximum effect, epitomized in the cantilevered countercurrent pool and hot tub creating a multi-sensual experience.

Building geometry is designed and configured as a prototype integrating a generic top (main rooms) and site-specific bottom (wellness and activity zone), creating a recognizable iconic image adapting to a multitude of locations across Europe.

Structure and main cladding are made of wood, natural (and or recycled) products are used for all main building components. In combination with PV and an energy-optimized building envelope, this results in dramatic CO2, energy and operation cost savings.
