Project Summary
Developed from the aim to define a distinct place “between sky and earth” an architectural expression was needed to uniquely enhance the flat natural wetland and river area on the outskirts of Tianjin and give it a recognizable new icon.
Like a boulder hitting the landscape, the main building has a rock-like, solid but sculptural shape and occupies a dramatic location on the edge of a berm, overlooking an artificial lake to the south. Adjacent facilities like Conference Center, Spa, Restaurants and Service / Training Areas are distinctly different from the main building and integrate in the surrounding wavy golf course landscape.
While the Hotel’s glass / metal façade with reflections and setbacks for balconies, transparencies and layered translucent areas is polygonised like the facets of a diamond, the facility buildings emerge like pieces of the landscape itself generating a large folded roof garden and cantilevering out over the southern lake. All these facilities are accessed by an indoor waterside boulevard along the lake’s edge.
The large roof areas are all extensively greened reducing the impermeable surfaces and aesthetic footprint of construction: all rooms in the main building have views over roof garden, golf course or right to the seashore.
